What to Look for When You’re Shopping for a Triton Bull Bar

After the Hilux and the Ranger, the Mitsubishi Triton is the most popular UTE here in Australia. It scores well in terms of off-road capability, safety technology and more. Even though this robust vehicle is an amazing off-roader, it still needs extra frontal protection like a nudge bar. There are so many different bars on the market for your Triton that is can be difficult to make a final choice. With this in mind, we’ve put together a short guide to choosing the best bullbar for your car.

Whether you’re kitting your vehicle out with a roobar or any other type of bar work, the most important thing to consider first is the material it’s constructed from. The most popular ones are plastic, steel and aluminium. Plastic bars are mainly for aesthetic purposes with aluminium and steel being the most functional. Steel is also a great choice if you need a robust bar as it’s so strong. Additionally, steel needs very little maintenance, is pretty affordable, can be easily repaired and can withstand our local environmental conditions. Just bear in mind that steel is heavy and can slow you down and reduce your fuel economy.

Interestingly, nowadays, aluminium is beginning to compete with steel in terms of longevity and strength. Another plus point is that this material weighs a lot less. Additionally, an aluminium Triton or Prado bull bar will never slow your vehicle down. There are a couple of drawbacks associated with aluminium though. If it’s not polished, it can look pretty dull within a few months. Also, it’s pricier than steel.

No matter the material you favour, a huge aspect that will impact your eventual choice is looks. You want to choose a bar that accentuates and enhances your UTE’s overall look. You therefore need to thoroughly inspect your bullbar before you purchase it. If something feels or looks cheap then it won’t be a good choice!

It’s always a good idea to purchase a bullbar that comes with rated tow points and hi-lift jack points. Rated tow points are a great thing to have as they show that the manufacturer has paid an engineer to test and to rate the tow points. These are always far better to have than ones that haven’t been tested or rated independently.

A bull bar is a great-looking and useful addition to a Triton or indeed any UTE!
